The overall design of Grant Daycare, located in Port Coquitlam, is indebted to and reflective of its surroundings. Through its playful reinterpretation of the local vernacular massing, roofline and materiality, the building signals its programmatic difference (daycare vs single-family home) while respecting the character and identity of the surrounding context. Typical elements of the residential neighbourhood - footprint shape and size, pitched roof, articulated facades, standard window sizes, and a muted colour palette with wood highlights are re-purposed to create a new building that is fully integrated into the existing community.
